Who we are

RentalPlace, run by Byron Barillas in Brisbane. We follow the Australian Privacy Principles. Privacy questions: hello@rentalplace.com.au.

What we collect

• Your account: email address, and your name if you sign in with Google.
• Listings you post: the place, photos, your first name, and the email and phone you give for contact.
• Places you save and alerts you set.
• Reports you send.
• Basic technical data needed to run the site securely.
• When you view a listing's contact details, a record of which listing and when. It's kept for 90 days to stop scraping and investigate misuse, then deleted.

We don't collect ID documents, nationality, ethnicity or religion. Please don't put them in listings.

Why

To run the site, check listings, send the alerts you asked for, prevent scams and misuse, and meet legal obligations. We never sell personal information.

Who sees it

A listing's email and phone are shown to signed-in members so they can contact you about it. Our service providers: Google Firebase (hosting and database, Sydney region) and our email provider. Police or regulators when the law requires.

Emails

We only send alerts you've opted into. Every alert email has a one-click unsubscribe, honoured straight away.

Keeping it safe, and for how long

Data is stored in Google's Sydney data centres, with access limited by security rules.

• Listings expire 14 days after they were last confirmed as available. An expired listing can be renewed; if it isn't, it's deleted after 90 days.
• If you don't visit for 6 months, your account goes to sleep: alerts pause and anything you've posted is hidden. Signing in again restores it all.
• After 2 years without a visit, your account and everything in it is deleted. We email you 30 days before.
• You can delete your account at any time with the "Delete my account" button under Account. It removes your listings, photos, saved places, alerts and account straight away. Reports you made are kept for moderation, without your name.

Automated checks

Listings are scanned for warning signs of scams or discrimination. A flag only sends a listing to a person for review; it doesn't decide anything on its own.

Your choices

Delete your account yourself with the button under Account. To get a copy of your information or correct it, email hello@rentalplace.com.au. We'll respond within 30 days. If you're not happy with our answer, you can complain to the OAIC (oaic.gov.au, 1300 363 992).
